The "She Plays, She Leads" chapter of the New York Minority Women Foundation (NYMWF) is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to empowering women of all ages, races, and backgrounds through the transformative power of sports. Our mission is simple yet profound: to create spaces where women can break through barriers, challenge limitations, and redefine their potential—both on and off the field. Through sports, we help women develop critical leadership qualities, build confidence, and acquire lifelong skills that extend far beyond athletics.
At She Plays, She Leads, we are committed to ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to thrive—whether they are experienced athletes or newcomers looking for a supportive space to start. Our program is designed to empower women by providing access to sports, training, and mentorship, regardless of their background, age, or skill level.
Our Vision: A Future Where Women Lead in Sports and Life
At She Plays, She Leads, we envision a future where women not only participate in sports but also lead in sports. Whether you are training for the next big game, competing at the highest levels, or simply looking for a community to stay active and connected, we are here to support you. Through our programs, we empower women to break down barriers, build resilience, and take on leadership roles in every area of their lives.
By nurturing strong, confident, and empowered women through sports, we are shaping a future where women can excel—on the field and beyond. Join She Plays, She Leads today and become part of a movement that’s empowering women to lead, play, and inspire.
On February 9, 2025, the NY Minority Women Foundation proudly hosted an inspiring and empowering celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the Long Beach Tennis Center. The event brought together women from all walks of life to celebrate achievements in sports, promote gender equity, and inspire future generations of women and girls.
This free, women-only event featured a variety of engaging sports activities, including tennis, badminton, pickleball, and ping pong camps, all at no cost to participants. Additionally, attendees enjoyed friendly competition in Ludo, Checkers, Carrom, and Snake & Ladder Championships.
Throughout the day, participants also enjoyed free snacks and a hearty dinner, offering an opportunity to socialize, network, and connect with fellow attendees. In addition, several lucky participants took home free raffle prizes, adding a fun and exciting element to the event.
Ann Marie, the wife of Long Beach's City Manager, graced the event as the Chief Guest, inspiring all with her presence and support for women’s empowerment in sports. NYMWF president Sanyaa Naeem also shared her empowering message, highlighting the importance of striving for equality and excellence.
The NY Minority Women Foundation’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day event was a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting women in their athletic and personal growth. It was a day of celebration, inspiration, and a call to continue advocating for gender equity in all areas of life, particularly in the realm of sports.
